Energy Trust's small wind program supports installation of turbines ranging from 20 watts to approximately 600 kilowatts. Energy Trust reaches out to farmers, ranchers, municipalities, and other property owners who may be interested in installing a small wind turbine.

Last year, Energy Trust worked with the city of Portland to install a 10 kW turbine at the city's Sunderland Yard Composting facility.

The first step in providing support for wind systems is assessing the wind quality at a proposed site. Energy Trust's wind Anemometer Loan program provides measuring devices free of charge to landowners whose sites meet initial screening characteristics. Wind anemometers provide valuable data on a site's wind quality and speed, and helps potential wind turbine users evaluate a site's suitability for turbine placement.

The Anemometer Loan program is administered by Oregon State University's Energy Resource Research Laboratory (ERRL) and is now accepting applications. There are currently 16 anemometers in use by the program.
