Learn About Technical Specifications:
- ENERGY STAR® New Homes requires that ENERGY STAR qualified homes be performance tested by an approved technician to ensure that systems and equipment work as designed. Specifically technicians test:
- Duct systems for heating and cooling systems: Tested maximum leakage must be less than 0.06 CFM per square foot of floor area or 75 CFM@ 50 Pa, whichever is greater.
- Heat pump refrigerant charge and airflow: Technicians test using either the CheckMe!™ program, Honeywell’s Service Assistant®, or other approved methods using the manufacturer’s guidelines.
Additional information on performance testing requirements can be found at Northwest ENERGY STAR.
- A Performance Testing Field Guide is available to guide technicians through the process and specifications. To request a printed copy, please call the trade ally coordinator at 1-877-283-0698 and press option 1.
Training:
- Each technician must receive performance testing training. The program will help offset the cost of heat pump and commissioning training. Contact the trade ally coordinator at 1-877-283-0698 for more details.
Purchase Equipment:
- Incentives of up to $1,200 per trained technician are available to help offset the cost of equipment purchases.
