Energy can be produced from the by-products of agriculture, forestry and the wood products industry, as well as from municipal solid waste in landfills and municipal wastewater. In some cases, the waste is burned directly to generate electricity. In others, it is processed to recover methane, which is then burned for electricity production.

Biopower Projects - Energy Trust helps fund projects across Oregon that convert waste into fuel to generate clean, renewable power. Learn more about incentives, how to apply for funding, and additional program details

Currently, biopower is the largest source of renewable energy in Oregon's energy supply, although it still accounts for only about one percent of total energy consumed in the state. Energy Trust is developing a systematic effort to tap the abundant potential of biopower.

Energy Trust provides financial incentives to help support the development of biopower projects. In some cases, we share the cost of feasibility studies for proposed projects. We accept and evaluate applications throughout the year, and award funds on a competitive basis as resources allow.

If you have a biopower project to propose, please contact , Biopower Program Manager, at 503-445-7632.

Energy Trust provides technical assistance and financial incentives but does not develop, sell or install energy systems or equipment. This work is done by independent businesses that are solely responsible for the quality and performance of their installations.
