Energy Trust Home > Renewable Energy > Solar > Water Heating > How to Participate
It’s easy to find out if solar makes sense for you with the help of our solar water heating contractors. You select a contractor from our Trade Ally Network, who will help you choose a solar water heating system that is right for your needs and provide a system quote estimating annual performance, installation date, and your cost after incentive deductions. The contractor will explain maintenance and warranty details, and will help you understand how to apply for tax credits available from the state.
- You must be an Oregon customer of Portland General Electric, Pacific Power, Cascade Natural Gas or NW Natural.
- All projects must by approved by the Energy Trust prior to installation.
- Systems must be installed by a qualified Energy Trust solar contractor. Self-installed systems do not qualify.
- Systems must be new. Expansions to existing solar systems are not eligible.
- After you have selected a contractor (Click “Choosing a Contractor” on the menu above) they will submit an application to the Energy Trust.
- System gets installed by contractor (may be subject to an Energy Trust inspection).
- Energy Trust pays incentive to contractor, who then passes it through to the customer.
- Contractor will help customer fill out Oregon Department of Energy tax credit application form.
- Customer submits tax credit form to the Oregon Department of Energy.
