STATEWIDE: 2007 brings new, updated
incentives for energy efficiency measures
With the new year come changes in some Energy Trust
incentives. For instance, Energy Trust is now offering cash incentives for two
popular energy saving features: tankless water heaters
and direct vent gas fireplaces in new home construction.
In addition, the incentive cap for commercial and industrial lighting
upgrades—an area with great potential for savings
gains—has been increased for 2007. "Energy Trust
is continually looking for ways to support clean energy
choices and we reevaluate our incentive levels
throughout the year to gain the most benefit,"
said Margie Harris, executive director. For more
information on cash incentives available through
residential, commercial and industrial programs visit

STATEWIDE: Survey says energy efficiency has big role in meeting
worldwide demand
Energy efficiency, using current technology and best
practices, can reduce the yearly growth rate in worldwide
energy demand by more than half over the next 15 years,
according to a new study by the McKinsey Global Institute.
Simple steps, such as adoption of compact fluorescent
lightbulbs, improved insulation on new buildings, reduced
standby power requirements, higher appliance efficiency
standards and use of solar water heaters can make a
significant contribution. Researchers say that "many steps
are not taken because energy users lack information they
need, or because they don't value efficiency enough to
change their buying habits," according to a story in the
New York Times (November 29, 2006).
"Energy Trust's programs for residential, commercial
and industrial customers are making it easier for
Oregonians to make the energy efficient choice," said
Margie Harris, executive director. "We're
helping Oregon remain on the leading edge of states that
value efficiency and our environment."

TRADE ALLY OF THE MONTH: Eoff
Electric Supply
Eoff Electric Supply has been brightening up Oregon with
great savings through energy efficient, commercial lighting.
An original member of the Energy Trust Trade Ally Network,
Eoff completed 15 percent more lighting projects in 2006
than in 2005. Mike Lindner, Eoff's director of automation and
energy management, says Energy Trust is a great resource.
"The incentives really help us get people's attention.
To have our estimates of estimated energy savings validated
by Energy Trust gives us a lot of credibility," said
Lindner. "We expect our business to grow as companies
see the financial benefits of energy efficient lighting."

STATEWIDE: California rebate program demonstrates that solar is gaining status, boosting home values
Solar power is appearing on more and more California
rooftops as a result of the California Solar Initiative,
an ambitious 10 year, $3.2 billion program that offers
rebates from the state to stimulate a strong market
for solar. Banks are also now recognizing solar electric
systems as an improvement that increases value,
making financing readily available. As a result, a
record-setting amount of solar generation—just
under 50 megawatts—was installed in California in
2006.
