STATEWIDE: Business Energy Solutions—Existing Buildings
program wins national recognition
Energy Trust of Oregon received a Certificate of
Recognition for a comprehensive program to promote
ENERGY STAR® qualified commercial food
service equipment to Oregon restaurants and food service
operators. Participants in the first stage of the
program are already saving up to $760,000 in total
annual energy costs. "The leading feature of our program
is a free, high efficiency pre-rinse sprayer to
restaurants and food service operators," said Greg Stiles,
senior business sector manager, Energy Trust. Energy Trust
has installed 1,900 free sprayers since 2005. Each
sprayer saves $400 in annual energy and water costs.
As of April 1, restaurant owners and food service operators
will have an even bigger reason to save energy. Cash
incentives for full-size gas convection ovens and ENERGY STAR
qualified gas fryers will increase to $1,000 and CEE qualified
ice makers are now eligible for cash incentives of $300-500,
depending on ice harvest rates.

PORTLAND: Terwilliger Plaza
residents retire in comfort
With boilers reaching retirement age, Facilities Manager
Bruce Manning knew it was time to make a change.
Boilers at the 270-unit Terwilliger Plaza were original
equipment in 1961 and ran at very low efficiency. With
two of seven new boilers installed, Manning is going to
save 13,800 therms of natural gas each year. When
installation is complete in August, Manning expects to
achieve total energy savings of 30 to 35 percent. The
first phase received Energy Trust incentives of $24,000,
including a bonus incentive, which is available through
May 2007.

STATEWIDE: Premium
efficiency clothes washers clean up on savings
Energy and water savings are coming out in the wash all
across Oregon. Nearly 22,500 Oregonians received an
incentive from Energy Trust after purchasing new premium
efficiency clothes washers in 2006. Now through 2007,
purchasers of select ENERGY STAR premium efficiency
clothes washers can receive an $85 mail-in incentive
from Energy Trust. Some machines also qualify for an
Oregon state energy tax credit of up to $180. To be eligible
for the Energy Trust incentive, shoppers must purchase
an ENERGY STAR qualified clothes washer with a Modified
Energy Factor (MEF) of 2.0 or higher by December 31, 2007.

TROUTDALE: Troutdale
Airport takes off with energy efficient lighting
Airplane mechanics at the hangars at Troutdale Airport/Portland
are seeing their work in a whole new light. A new
lighting system with high efficiency fluorescent
fixtures is reducing the Port of Portland's electricity
use by 55 percent for annual electricity cost savings
of more than $17,000. A $15,000 Energy Trust incentive,
an expected Oregon Business Energy Tax Credit and
energy savings will reduce the payback cost of the
project to less than two years. Photo courtesy of the

STATEWIDE: Energy Trust
boosts incentives for commercial solar systems
Businesses may lead the way in Oregon's effort to
increase clean energy generation. New higher cash
incentives from Energy Trust for commercial solar
electric systems could make going solar one of the
easiest decisions a business can make. The new incentives
support photovoltaic systems up to 50 kilowatts in
size, and the maximum incentive has been increased
to $70,000.
"Solar energy is more than a good thing for Oregon's
environment. It's a good, solid business decision for
Oregon companies," said Kacia Brockman, solar programs
manager, Energy Trust. "By combining Energy Trust
incentives with Oregon Business Energy Tax Credits,
the Federal Investment Tax Credits and an accelerated
depreciation schedule, businesses can take a big step
toward reducing their energy costs while creating more
clean energy for Oregon."
