PORTLAND: The Heathman Hotel touts energy efficiency
To reduce its energy costs and carbon footprint, Portland's Heathman Hotel
has teamed up with Energy Trust and trade allies Viking Energy Services and
Environmental Controls. The hotel is working toward becoming
an ENERGY STAR® certified and "green"
hotel.
The Heathman Hotel has received incentives of
$23,000 from Energy Trust for completed energy-saving
initiatives.

DAYTON: Sun fuels more than grapes at Sokol Blosser Winery
Welcoming the sun with wide, reflective arms, an array
of solar panels nestled among the rolling vineyards at
Sokol Blosser Winery is a new source of renewable energy
for the Willamette Valley. "Sokol Blosser is demonstrating
that solar power works in Oregon," said Kacia Brockman,
solar program manager, Energy Trust. "Besides reducing
carbon emissions that contribute to global warming, the
winery is taking a significant step to be able to
control energy costs for years to come. It's just
good business."

STATEWIDE: Energy efficient lightbulbs light up fundraising
Energy Trust has a bright idea for schools, congregations
and other organizations looking for a good way to raise
funds. The "Change a Light, Change the World" program
gives groups a 50 percent profit for every CFL sold.

ASTORIA: Bornstein's Seafood and Port of Astoria reel in energy savings
A local business for 71 years, Bornstein's Seafood
recently expanded into a 45,000 square foot refrigeration
and storage facility in cooperation with the Port of
Astoria. With a $126,797 incentive from Energy Trust,
Bornstein's and the Port of Astoria installed high
efficiency refrigeration units that will save 633,985
kilowatt hours of energy and more than $22,000 each year.
"Thanks to encouragement from Pacific Power and
Energy Trust's incentive program, the efficient
equipment not only reduced our energy costs, it improved
our process efficiencies and production," said Jay Bornstein,
president, Bornstein's Seafood.

PORTLAND: City of Portland and Energy Trust award $425,000 in green building grants
The City of Portland and Energy Trust of Oregon
announced six building projects that will receive a
combined total of $425,000 in grants from the Green
Investment Fund (GIF), a five-year, $2.5 million grant
fund created to spur innovation in green building
technologies and practices in Portland.
A collaboration between Energy Trust and the City of Portland through
its Office of Sustainable Development, Water Bureau and
Bureau of Environmental Services, the GIF recognizes
project innovation in waste and pollution reduction,
water conservation, on-site stormwater management and
reuse, energy conservation and on-site renewable energy.
