STATEWIDE: Providence
Health & Services receives Energy Leadership Award
Providence Health & Services received the Energy Leadership
Award from Energy Trust in recognition of their
outstanding commitment to energy efficiency and the
environment. Since 2004, Providence has invested more than
$10 million in energy upgrades at 27 new and existing
Oregon facilities, resulting in combined annual
electricity savings of 10.6 million kilowatt hours and
230,000 therms of natural gas. Energy Trust supported
these projects with incentives of more than $1 million.
"Providence is leading the health care industry, both
here in Oregon and across the country, in showing what
can be accomplished through energy efficiency," said
Margie Harris, executive director, Energy Trust. "Providence
is leaving no stone unturned as they pursue cost-effective
savings. Providence shows that investing in energy upgrades
improves the bottom line and protects Oregon's environment."

PORTLAND: Schnitzer
Steel Industries upgrades energy efficiency, environmental
systems at Portland metals recycling operation
Schnitzer Steel Industries has completed upgrades to its
manufacturing and environmental systems at its Portland
operations, saving energy and millions of dollars over
the long term. These investments — including the
installation of a state-of-the-art Metso Texas Shredder
and related systems — totaled more than $14 million
and are a part of Schnitzer Steel's $770 million, multi-year
investment strategy. Energy Trust provided an incentive of
$410,000 to the project and provided consulting services
through the Production Efficiency program. PGE installed
a new 115-kilovolt transmission line to serve the new load
and assisted with design and construction of Schnitzer's new
electrical substation.
