STATEWIDE: Oregonians invited to participate in home energy study

Energy Trust is recruiting Oregon households to participate in a pilot project to study how real-time feedback monitors affect residential energy consumption. Early studies in Canada and the northeastern U.S. show that households monitoring their energy consumption typically reduce energy use by about five percent.

Energy Trust will recruit 120 households to participate in the study. Participants must meet the following qualifications: 1) Oregon residential customer of Portland General Electric or Pacific Power, 2) Pay their electric bill (not paid by a landlord), 3) Have access to their electric meter, 4) Do not have a solar electric system installed on the home, 5) Agree to complete two surveys, and 6) Agree to terms and conditions and provide utility account numbers.

Qualified households will be able to purchase a Blue Line PowerCost Monitor at $29.99, an 80 percent discount from the $149.99 retail price. Each participant will be asked to complete two surveys in 2008.

CORVALLIS: Sustainability Coalition, Energy Trust team up for big savings

Big energy savings are in store for Corvallis residents and businesses with the launch of the Corvallis Energy Challenge, a collaboration between the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition and Energy Trust. A first-ever program in Oregon, the Energy Challenge begins with energy reviews and solar assessments to identify savings opportunities and then challenges Corvallis citizens to take energy-saving actions in their homes and businesses. The goal of the program is to help Corvallis residents and businesses use energy more efficiently, control their energy costs and build a cleaner future with renewable energy. Organizers hope to complete at least 1,000 Home Energy Reviews and 50 business energy walkthrough assessments during the year-long program. Trade ally recruitment efforts will round out the effort to bolster Corvallis' clean energy economy.
