PORTLAND METRO: It's a hit! Better Living
Show draws 22,500 visitors
Energy Trust was the title sponsor of the first
Better Living Home, Garden & Lifestyle Show, March 28-30
at the Portland Expo Center. More than 22,500 people
attended the free show, exceeding the goal of at least
10,000 people. Energy Trust's main feature was a
1,100 square-foot Good Energy House built in the center
of the show to highlight energy-efficient improvements
and products and solar electric and solar water
heating systems. Energy Trust also staffed a display in
the lobby, distributed free compact fluorescent light
bulbs and answered many visitor questions about saving
energy. In the children's activity area, Energy Trust
helped dozens of children make their own solar ovens to
take home.
Nearly 900 Oregonians signed up for free Home Energy
Reviews and 1,993 entered to win Energy Trust's drawing
for an ENERGY STAR® appliance package.
Energy Trust's high-impact presence was made possible
thanks to many months of planning and the time
commitment of more than 80 Energy Trust staff and
volunteers.

CORVALLIS: Challenge continues to build
momentum
After a big kick-off in March, the Corvallis Energy
Challenge continues to pick up steam. One month into the
year-long campaign, several hundred homeowners have
signed up for free Home Energy Reviews from Energy Trust,
with more applications arriving daily. As of April 9,
170 reviews had been scheduled, and 84 were conducted
during the month of March. A solar seminar held on
April 12 and numerous Earth Day events through the rest
of the month are keeping the momentum going.
Businesses are also stepping up to the Challenge.
Twenty-five businesses have requested walk-through
energy assessments and Corvallis' Resource Efficiency
Program has scheduled or conducted 13 to date. Energy
Trust commercial trade allies will gather for an
informational session on April 22. The Challenge is a
part of the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition's
community sustainability action plan.

STATEWIDE: Two Energy Trust projects lauded
by ENERGY STAR®
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the
U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) have named Energy Trust
of Oregon as a 2008 Excellence in ENERGY STAR Promotion
Award winner. Two Energy Trust efforts were recognized
for outstanding contributions to reducing greenhouse
gas emissions: the Change a Light, Change the World
compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL) fundraiser, as well
as a commercial foodservice equipment replacement
program.
In 2007, 35 Oregon schools and organizations
participated in the Change a Light, Change the World
fundraiser, selling 7,522 CFLs, saving 379,791
kilowatt-hours annually and earning more than $14,000
for their causes. Last year, 247 restaurants and
foodservice organizations purchased 398 pieces of
ENERGY STAR or high efficiency equipment, creating
annual energy savings of more than 190,000 therms of
natural gas and nearly 1.2 million kilowatt-hours of
electricity.
STATEWIDE: New equipment incentives for
restaurants, lodging
Energy Trust's Existing Buildings program has added
two new incentives to the Restaurant/Foodservice and
Lodging initiative offerings.
Selected ENERGY STAR qualified commercial dishwashers are now eligible
for a
$200-$500 incentive, depending on the model. Hoteliers
can also take advantage of a $50 per unit incentive for
a Guestroom HVAC Occupancy Sensor for electric heat.

TRADE ALLY OF THE MONTH: Lodging Supply
Company
The last couple of years have been strong for Oregon's
hospitality industry, and for one of the Northwest's
equipment distributors, Lodging Supply Company. Owner
Jerry O'Neal joined Energy Trust's Trade Ally Network
at the start of the lodging initiative in late 2006.
One of his biggest sellers is the package terminal heat
pump that provides energy-efficient heating and cooling.
Last year O'Neal completed 24 installations of
package terminal heat pumps for a total of 449 units
that received Energy Trust incentives—all in only
7 months. "The interest in energy efficiency and
sustainability is really taking off in the lodging
industry," said O'Neal. "My customers love to receive
incentives for buying the best products. Everyone wants
