STATEWIDE: 2008 NW Solar Expo a shining success; Energy Trust honors OSD for their efforts
The third annual NW Solar Expo presented by OSEIA is in
the record books as Oregon's most popular event to date.
The sold-out, three-day professional training series for
contractors concluded with a lively plenary session
presentation by Rhone Resch, director of SEIA. More than
4,300 people attended workshops throughout the
following two-day public expo. During a trade industry
awards ceremony, Energy Trust presented its Green
Future award to the City of Portland Office of
Sustainable Development.
"Portland's Office of Sustainable Development has
been instrumental in creating Portland's solar future,"
said Kacia Brockman, solar program manager, Energy Trust.
"Through their efforts, Portland has received a Solar
Cities grant from the U.S. Department of Energy, we've
launched the Solar Now! brand, and they've achieved
their 2007 goal with 110 solar installations last year,
up from a total of 165 over the previous four years."
PORTLAND METRO: Bonus cash incentives available for heat pumps
Rising energy costs and the prospect of a hot summer
have many Oregonians thinking about ways to keep cool
without overheating their budget.
Heat pumps are an energy-efficient way to cool in the summer and heat in
the winter. Energy Trust is offering a $50 bonus
incentive for qualified, premium-efficiency heat pumps
installed by June 30. This is in addition to the
standard Energy Trust heat pump incentive of up to $400
and the Oregon Residential Energy Tax Credit of up to
$430. PGE is also offering a $200 rebate to its
customers who replace an older heating system with a
high-efficiency heat pump.

TRADE ALLY OF THE MONTH: Gen-Con, Inc.
Solar pool heating systems were the first solar
solution to become popular and they continue to be an
important component of Oregon's solar future. Just ask
Brent Gunderson. He's been installing solar pool
heating systems since 1988. Gunderson's one-man
operation is Gen-Con, Inc., which installs solar
photovoltaic, solar water heating and solar pool
heating systems in Oregon, Washington and Idaho.
Gen-Con was one of the first solar installers to join
Energy Trust's Trade Ally Network in 2004. "Energy Trust
incentives are really helping move the commercial pool
market from a wait-and-see customer to an install-it-right-now
customer," said Gunderson. "We're definitely seeing
larger pools switching to solar under Energy Trust's
program."
