Success Story

Stanley Hydraulics, Milwaukie

Estimated annual savings: $45,000

Energy use is a big topic at Stanley Hydraulics, a customer of Portland General Electric and NW Natural. The manufacturer helps other companies switch from older pneumatic tools to cleaner, more efficient hydraulic technology. A division of Stanley Black & Decker, the company was tasked with reducing energy waste at its leased space by 5 percent annually.

“We have guidelines to help us,” said Bernadette Donald, Stanley’s energy champion and environmental, health and safety manager, “but our eyes really opened when we joined Energy Trust’s industrial Strategic Energy Management initiative.”

SEM helped Stanley understand its energy costs and find ways to reduce energy consumption. The company also upgraded to high-bay LED lighting throughout the plant. Together, the SEM and lighting changes are estimated to save more than 885,000 kilowatt hours of electricity and about $45,000 annually. For this project, Stanley far exceeded the corporate reduction goal and also received $115,623 in cash incentives from Energy Trust.
