Mississippi Workshop: Oregon’s first commercial project with all-wood mass timber construction for all components of the building’s structure and spatial definition
Energy Trust of Oregon invites you to a webinar to learn about the Mississippi Workshop, a 10,000 sq. ft. mixed-use, mass timber building located in the heart of Portland’s Mississippi neighborhood. The webinar will feature members of the design team from Waechter Architecture who designed and developed the building as a forum for new creative conversations and a proving ground for sustainable building systems that incorporate “all-wood” construction technologies.
Mississippi Workshop is the first commercial project in Oregon to use mass timber construction for all components of the building’s structure and spatial definition. Other than a “rain jacket” of weathering steel and radiant concrete flooring, all surfaces within the building are exposed wood without the need for additional finishes or fireproofing. This approach creates a simplicity and wholeness that is absent in standard cross-laminated timber (CLT) or traditional frame construction and creates spaces with uncommon warmth, beauty and durability.
Don’t miss this opportunity to hear how Waechter Architecture worked with Energy Trust on the project’s energy efficiency measures and how every decision – from the building’s agile organization to the integration of healthy materials and efficient building systems – embodies the principles of resilience and enduring design.
